Maria Lucia Garcia, 82, resident of Lubbock, Texas, formerly a long-time resident of Dimmitt, Texas, succumbed to her battle with dementia in the comfort of her home, on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Arockiaraj Malapady and Deacon John Niño as celebrants. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Viewing will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. with rosary being recited at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Due to COVID 19 only

Maria was born July 6, 1938, in Calallen, Texas to Jose A. and Dominga (Olivarez) Everett. She married her husband Jose on May 29, 1959 in Floydada, Texas. In 1966, they moved to Dimmitt. In 1971, both her and her husband became members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was a Servidores de Cristo, Crucita, and a member of the church choir. Maria also worked for Dimmitt ISD for many years as a custodian and a cafeteria server. Maria was also an excep

Maria was also an exceptionally good seamstress, mechanic, and hairdresser, she was a very self-reliant women, she was also her family accountant. If the children had any events with band or choir she always made sure that they were there. She is said to be an “awesome mommy” and always pushed her kids to be the best they could be. During her free time, she and her husband would work on the yard together and care for the rosebushes. She also believed that a wife’s job was to protect her husband’s hard work, and she did everything she could do to better her family.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Jose Arturo Jr. and Ramon Garcia; as well as her parents, Jose Angel Everett and Dominga Olivares; two brothers, Guadalupe Olivares, Jose Angel Everett Jr.; and three sisters, Julia De La Garza, Beatrice Alcala and Eva Alcala.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jose Arturo Garcia Sr.; sons, Moises E. Garcia and wife Sara of Amarillo, Texas, and Santos J. Garcia and wife Yahira of Justin, Texas; daughters, Delia Porter and husband Robert of Virginia, and Mary G. Correa and husband J.R. of Lubbock; grandchildren, Bartholomew and Janessa Garcia, Mark Porter, Jose Arturo Garcia III, Joaquin, Mariela, Liam and Zacarias E. Correa, Moises J., and Joseph D. Garcia; greatgrandchildren, Adriah Garcia, J’Lynn Garcia, Adeline Katia, Joaquin Ulises and

Madeliss Sofia Correa and Avery Porter; and brothers, Juan A Everett, Ramon Everett, Noe Everett and David Everett.
