Jose Arturo Garcia Sr. went to be in the Lord’s presence at the age of 93. He passed on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, in Lubbock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father David Contreras and Deacon John Nino officiating; burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. A family and friend visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, from 1 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary starting at 6 p.m. followed by a Vigil at the funeral home. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Jose Arturo was born to his loving parents, Santos V. and Josefa (Vera) Garcia on Aug. 7, 1931, in Mercedes, Texas. Jose was raised in the Hidalgo County area; he was drafted to serve proudly during the Korean Conflicts. Following his service in the Army he moved to West Texas briefly before heading to California for a minor time, but the Lord led him back to West Texas where he met the love of his life Maria Lucia (Everett) Garcia. May 29, 1959, in Floyd County they got married and moved to Dimmitt in 1969 and made their home, raising their beautiful family.

He had a devoted relationship with the Lord, he instilled many lessons in his family, but priority was putting the Lord first in all you do -Proverbs 3:6. Jose and his wife were both members of the Los Servidores de Cristo and proudly served the Lord.

Jose had an unmatchable work ethic and was in the farming industry for several years before working for Dimmitt ISD, starting off as a custodian and working his way to be the maintenance director. Jose was very intelligent, conscientious and never stopped learning. His legacy is now carried on by his loving descendants. The importance of education was made known by Jose and he taught his children & grandchildren “education is the key to success” and to be a “man of your word”.

He loved his family unconditionally and wholeheartedly. He gave the best advice to his loved ones and they will cherish his words of wisdom for eternity; He loved to be active and exercise daily, Jose enjoyed watching his favorite baseball team the Texas Rangers and his favorite football team the Dallas Cowboys.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his children, Moses E. Garcia and wife Sara of Dimmitt, Texas, Santos Jesus Garcia and his wife Yahaira of Justin, Texas, Delia G. Porter and her husband Robert of Bristol, Virginia, Mary Correa and her husband J.R. of Lubbock; his grandchildren, Bartholomew Garcia, Mark Porter and wife Hannah, Jose Arturo Garcia, Ill., Joaquin Correa and his wife Amber, Mariela I. Correa, Janessa Garcia, Moises J. Garcia, Joseph D. Garcia, Liam I. Correa, Zacarias E. Correa; his great-grandchildren, Adriah Garcia, J’Lynn Garcia, Adeline Katia, Joaquin Ulises, Madeliss Sofia, Anya Elizabet Correa and Avery Porter; his siblings, Ida Lujan and husband Arturo of Panhandle, Texas, Jose Garcia and his wife Socorro, Robert Gracia and his wife Elida all of Edinburg, Texas, Juanita Hernadez and her husband Alvin of Johnson City, Texas, Rogelio Garcia of Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Those preceding him in passing are his parents, Santos V. and Josefa Garcia; his wife of 61 years, Maria E. Garcia; his two sons, Jose Arturo Garcia, Jr., and Ramon E. Garcia; and his siblings, Guadalupe, Francisca, Santos, Eva, Maria, Elida, Delicia, Erasmo, Roman.
