Elmer Earl Garlitz passed away peacefully on March 7, 2021, at Country View Living in Dimmitt, Texas.

Elmer was born in San Angelo, Texas, on Dec. 30, 1932, to Amos and Fannie Garlitz. He attended school in Veribest and San Angelo Lakeview, graduating in 1951.

After a medical discharge from the Army, Elmer returned to San Angelo where he met, fell in love with and married Willene Page on Jan. 14, 1955 and proceeded to build a life together that included five children. Elmer and Willene made their home in San Angelo before moving their family to Eldorado in 1971, where he continued his work as a milkman for Foremost and then Gandy’s. He retired from Gandy’s in 1995 and drove a school bus for Schleicher County ISD for the next nine years.

Elmer loved and provided for his family. He took great pleasure and pride in his children and grandchildren, and he took every opportunity to attend all the events and games he could in which they participated.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Willene; his parents; his sisters and their husbands, Frankie and Lamar Dusek, and Marie and Top Legg; inlaws, George and Edith Page, and Jimmie Allen; nephew, Bobby and Annette Legg; and his precious granddaughter, Laura Page Schneemann.

Elmer will be missed by his children, Sharon and Mark Elam of Rockwall, Terrie and Dan Schneemann of Big Lake, Don Garlitz of Whitehouse, Greg and Mindy Garlitz of Plainview, and Kara Sue Garlitz of Nazareth.

Missing “Grandpa” are Jenni Elam of Rockwall and Katie and Marco Duran of Rockwall; Will Schneemann of Big Lake, Julie Schneemann and Drew Brantley of Irving, and Casey Schneemann and Holly Bailey of Big Lake; Allison and Jacob Gray of Midland, Matt and Danyelle Garlitz of Lubbock, and Rachel and Zach Lilly of Austin; M’Kenzie Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia, Chris and Bonnie Germany of Amarillo, Shara and Riley Stanford of Van Alstyne, Jake Ivins and Karagan Lynn of Plainview; and his great-grandchildren, Jake Elam, Jett Parrish, Lexi Duran, Luke Duran, Madeline Gray, Ava Gray, Riley Garlitz, Harli Stanford, Haylen Stanford, and Arya Germany

He is also survived by inlaws, Faye Franklin, Bill and Ann Schneemann, Zelma Page, Nancy Allen, and Charlie and Patsy Beaty. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends including his lifelong friends, the Cauley family of San Angelo.

Serving as pallbearers were his family and friends.
