Juanita “Wela” Gauna, 80 of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Arockiaraj Malapady, Father Lupe Mayorga, Deacon John Niño and Deacon Richard Martinez as celebrants; burial to follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Viewing will be Monday, Nov. 23 at the funeral home. Rosary/Vigil will be Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Due to the COVID Virus everyone attending the viewing, rosary and the funeral service must wear a mask provided by you. Your safety and health matter to us.

Juanita was born on Feb. 8, 1940 in La Pryor, Texas to Esteban and Petra (Pineda) Gonzales. Juanita met and fell in love with her husband Ramon Guana in Levelland, Texas. They got married in April of 1961. She has been a resident of Dimmitt since 1963. Juanita was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Juanita was an amazing cook and had the best rice. She loved to visit the cross in Groom. She also loved strawberry shakes from Dairy Queen. Juanita was a very faithful, devoted, quiet, and down to earth person. She loved to sew and would occasionally have a margarita at night to help her sleep better. Juanita loved to read her devotional and would often leave a rosary where ever she went. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and it is said that she “Raised the best kids ever.”

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband; Ramon Gauna of Dimmitt; her daughters, Rosa Martinez and husband Santos of Albany, Texas, Nadine Lopez and husband Ben of Canyon, Texas, and Gloria Munoz and husband Armando of Amarillo, Texas; two sons, Roger Gauna and wife Renee of Claude, Texas, and Ramiro Gauna and wife Tami of Round Rock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers; Robert Gonzales, Richard Gonzales and Alex Gonzales; and four sisters; Munda Arredondo, Chencha Ayala, Vera Dominguez and Maria Reyes.

Juanita is joining her son, Oscar Gauna; her parents, Esteban and Petra Gonzales; and her brother, Chacho Gonzales.
