Cecil Ray Jones, 94, a lifelong resident of Hart, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, in Hart, Texas. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hart, Texas, with Dr.GeneMeachamofficiating. Burial will follow at the Hart Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Viewing will be held on Friday, April 28, at the First Baptist Church of Hart from 1 to 2 p.m.

Cecil was born in Castro County on July 28, 1928, to Ray and Nina (Hart) Jones. He graduated from Hart High School in 1946. Cecil earned recognition as a Gold Star Farmer and won a trip to Chicago during his sophomore year. He married the love of his life Louise Swopes (his high school sweetheart), on August 15, 1948; they have had 74 wonderful years together. Cecil served as an airplane mechanic in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1960. Cecil was a 5th generation carpenter and earned his master electrician’s license by attending night school. He owned and operated Jones Electric and his own farm. Cecil built his house with his wife and several more in the Hart area. Cecil taught his two sons, Charles Ray and Dan Blake, his trade and instilled in them the meaning of work. He was the last living grandchild of T.W. Hart, founder of the town of Hart. Cecil was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hart; he served as head usher for services and funerals. His presence will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Louise Jones of Hart; two sons, Charles Jones of Houston, Texas, and Dan Jones and his wife Debi of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Samuel Jones, Captain Hannah Davis, DO, and her husband Cole, and Joshua Jones.

Cecil is preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Myrtle Hall.
