E.M. “PeePaw” Jones Jr., 92 of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct.16, 2023, in Dimmitt.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Coby Gilbreath and Dr. Jonathan Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

E.M. Jones was born on March 10, 1931, in Hart, Texas on the Mills Farm to Ernest Montgomery Jones Sr. and Edna (Myers) Jones. He grew up in Abernathy and graduated from Abernathy High School. He moved to the Dimmitt community in 1961 and later owned and operated Jones Ditching for 25 years. E.M. married Betty Jean Jones on Aug. 23, 1991, in Plainview, Texas, and they were married for 32 years. After moving to Dimmitt, E.M. was a longtime member of the Methodist Church for 30 years and then later became a member of the First Baptist Church for 32 years. He was a volunteer for the outreach program “Helping Hands”. In 2000, he received the Business of the Year Award from the Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce.

E.M. was an avid motorcycle rider and a member of the Geritol Gang. He thoroughly loved to cook and make beef jerky for his family and friends. But most of all he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was loved by all.

E.M. is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Jones of Dimmitt; children, Roger Jones and wife Sherry of Lubbock, Suzan Sanders and husband Bill of Dimmitt, Sondra Hastings and husband Max of Grand Junction, Colorado, Debbie Underwood and husband Danny of Dimmitt, and Connie Gilbreath and husband Coby of Dimmitt; 13 grandchildren,;22 greatgrandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Montgomery Jones and Edna (Myers) Jones; brother, Lloyd Jones; sisters, Arlene Kerr and Dorothy Gill; and grandsons, Barry B. Sanders and Roger Smith.
