Bobby Lee (Bob) Kay passed away on Oct. 17.

Bob was born to Ovry Virgil Kay and Minnie B. (King) Kay in Maysbelle, Garvin Co., Oklahoma. The family moved to Texas when he was 14. He attended Plainview High School where he enjoyed sports, especially basketball and football. After starting a family and his farming activities, he continued playing sports on a semi-pro baseball league as a catcher.

Over the years, he and the family farmed, he had a seed business, and worked in various agricultural endeavors. He had a passion for racehorses, enjoying the process from foaling to the winner’s circle. He, his wife Wanda, and family moved from Plainview/Halfway to Castro County in 1960. He and Wanda attended the Church of Christ in Dimmitt.

Bob leaves behind two daughters; Darla McAndrew of Lubbock, and Delese Ellison of Austin; grandchildren, Joshua Kay of Plano, Errin Todd (Steve) of Lubbock, Dusty Kay of Dimmitt, Sarah Wethington (Brad) of Austin; Krysta Kay Johnson (Derion) of Amarillo, and Adrian Ellison of Austin. Bob loved little kids, and his great-grandchildren especially. They are Keira Kay of Plano, Kaylee Todd of Lubbock, and Waylon and Zane Wethington of Austin.

Of 11 children, two survived Bob, Paul Kay of Altus, Oklahoma and Gloria Kennedy of Amarillo.

Preceding him were his father and mother; his wife; and his son Rocky. Additionally, there were four brothers, Vernon, Eugene (Gene), Jack and Charles Kay; and four sisters; Verna Huffman (Sis), Lavern Williamson; Louise Williamson; and Wilma (Dimple) King. There are many more beloved nieces, nephews, and greatnieces and nephews.

Bob never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with everyone. He has had numerous good and great friends over the years. The phrase that has come up over and over to describe him – Bob was one of a kind.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, Oct. 27, at the Community Christian Church Chapel, 3417 96th Street, (West of Indiana Avenue) Lubbock, Texas 79423, (806) 792-0500. A location for family and fellowship will be announced Friday, if not sooner.
