Laverne McLain, 87, a lifelong resident of Hart, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021, in Plainview, Texas. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 10, at 10 a.m.at the First Baptist Church in Hart, Texas with Kevin Shaw officiating; burial to follow at Hart Cemetery. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Family and friend visitation will be Friday, July 9, from 6- 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Laverne was born June 19, 1934, in Hart, Texas to Walter Harrison and Mary Elois (Winkle) Davis. Laverne has been a resident of Hart for 83 years. She married Horace E. “Tom” McLain on Dec. 31, 1949, in Clovis, New Mexico. Laverne was a bookkeeper for Farmers Grain, Farmers State Bank, Hart Oil, J.C. Pennies in Plainview, and McGavock Motors; she later worked for Dimmitt Pharmacy. Laverne was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 15 years, she was a longtime member of the Hart Golden Group, Pro-Family Organization and Hart Church of Christ.

Laverne enjoyed cooking, especially homemade chocolate cream pies, vacationing in Pagosa Springs, celebrating holidays, being around people, and always ready to go somewhere, but most of all she will be remembered for her love for her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Horace E. “Tom” McLain of Hart; a son, Tommy McLain and his wife Vivian of Canyon, Texas; a daughter, Janet K. McLain Truelock and her husband Ronnie of Alva, Oklahoma; two sisters, Pat Benson and her husband R.L. of Brownwood, Texas, and Edna Kittrell of Levelland, Texas; four grandchildren, Robyn Rhoades and her husband Ryan, Hayley Rheames and her husband Matthew, Derek McLain and his wife Angie, and Jeran McLain and his wife Amanda; and 10 great-grandchildren, McKenzie Rhoades, Michael Rhoades, Hallee Rheames, Tristan Rheames, Kenton Rheames, Breanna McLain, Callie McLain, Alyssa McLain, Addison McLain and Daxton McLain.

Laverne will be joining her parents and her brother, Lloyd Davis in heaven.
