Edna Rae was born on Nov. 27, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, to Edward and Sylvia (Dirks) Hoelting. She attended school in Nazareth and was a 1963 graduate of Nazareth High School. Edna married Rodger Schilling on Aug. 10, 1965, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Edna took great pride in caring for her husband, children, and home. She worked as a clerk for USDA FSA in Dimmitt from 1985 to 2005. Even while working, Edna continued in excellence working in her home, graciously serving her family, cooking, and gardening. She was a hard worker and valued all that she had. Edna loved to sew, cook, garden, listen to country music, and dance. She was a fantastic cook and made the most wonderful German Chocolate Cake. She also had a green thumb and managed a large, beautiful, productive garden in her younger days. Edna was a joyful person, always smiling and laughing; she was a friend to all and loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Rodger Schilling of Dimmitt; children, Shari Davis and husband Jim of Lakeside City, Texas, Kelly Gerber and husband Chris of Dumas, Texas, and Kyle Schilling and wife Stephanie of Dumas, Texas; grandchildren, Tony and Brooke Penquite, Erin Davis, Katie Franke, Rylan and Reghan Gerber, and Karli and Cole Schilling; greatgrandchildren, Ezekiel Landeros, and Duncan Allen; siblings, Kathleen Mattingly of Woodbine, Iowa, Jim Hoelting and wife Sandee, Tom Hoelting and wife Rita, Cince Schulte and husband Kenny, and Billy Ed Hoelting and wife Bernita, all of Nazareth, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Sylvia Hoelting; in-laws, Walter and Anita Schilling; and a sister, Marilyn Birkenfeld.

A special thank you to the Country View Living staff and BSA Hospice for their kindness, love, and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nazareth Holy Family Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 100, Nazareth, Texas 79063.
