Lawrence “Smick” Schmucker, 95 of Nazareth, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021 in Dimmitt, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth, Texas with Father Nick Gerber as celebrant, Father Bhaskar Adusupalli as concelebrant along with Deacon Bob Birkenfeld and Deacon Joe Hochstein as assistants. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home. Rosary/Vigil service will be held on Monday at 6 p.m. at the church.

Lawrence Schmucker was born on Oct. 7, 1925 in St. Helena, Nebraska to Theodore Schmucker and Elizabeth (Brand) Schmucker. In his early adult life, he served honorably in the United States Army for two years. Lawrence had been a resident of Nazareth since 1933 where he farmed for many years which was his lifelong passion. Lawrence married Faye Rodgers in 1971 and she later passed away in 1979. Lawrence was a member and a parishioner of the Holy Family Catholic Church where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Nazareth Senior Citizens and served on many boards within Nazareth and Castro County. But most of all he will be remembered for just being an all-around people person who was always willing to visit friends at the hospital and nursing homes, eating out with his buddies, attending parish fund raisers and playing 31 from time to time.

Lawrence is survived by his sister, Alvina Gerber of Nazareth; five nieces and nine nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews; along with a few cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Faye Schmucker; two sisters, Louise Braddock and Hilda Due; and two nephews, Gerald Braddock and Paul Gerber
