MLucile Smith, formerly of Hart, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 100. A graveside service will be on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Hart Cemetery, offi ciated by Dr. Gene Meacham of the First Baptist Church in Hart. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas.

Lucile was born in Tuscola, Texas, on Nov. 28, 1922, to John and Marie (McGinnis) Shelton. She was a graduate of Slaton High School. Lucile married F.A. Smith on Aug. 11, 1941, in Close City, Texas. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church in Hart, a Sunday school teacher, and a sub at Hart High School. Lucile was also an active member of the Zealot Club for many years, and she was an avid Texas Tech woman’s basketball fan, cheering them on all the way to a National Championship.

Lucile is preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie Shelton; her husband, F. A. Smith; an infant granddaughter, Karen Lucille Smith; four sisters, Martha “Mos” Leake, Margie Peterson, Fran Houghton, and Dorris Cashion; and one brother, Jack Shelton.

She is survived by two sons, John P. Smith and his wife Vera of Mena, Arkansas, and Jerry F. Smith and his wife Barbara of Lubbock, Texas; grandson, Jay W. Smith and his wife Kristina of Fayetteville, Arkansas; great-granddaughters, Madison and Karen Smith; great-grandson, Christopher Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
