Reynaldo “Rey” Velasquez, 70, long time resident of Hart, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 in Hart.

Rey was born on Jan. 6, 1951 to Jose Carlos and Manuela (Martinez) Velasquez in Abernathy, Texas. He was one of 18 brothers and sisters. He was raised in Hart, Texas. He helped his father in farming before he got married to his wife Amelia in 1971. Soon after getting married, he started working with his father-in-law in the trucking business. This would start a life-long career in trucking. By the time he retired from full time trucking he had traveled all 50 states plus Canada, and that was something he was immensely proud of. Rey knew no stranger! He had many stories to tell and was always cracking jokes. You always knew when he would in the room because he had to be the loudest. He was a very generous man and would give the shirt off his back to help someone. Rey also enjoyed playing the guitar at the Pentecostal church where he was also a member at. Rey would always tinker with everything from Go Karts to lawn mowers and fast trucks. He also loved motorcycles and collecting guns. “He was the life of the party.”

Of all his accomplishments, his greatest were his kids. He was a loving and caring father and had so much pride in his kids, or so it was until his grandkids came along. He was the best grandfather and great-grandfather anyone could ask for.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Amelia Velasquez; one daughter, Amy Jimenez and husband Aurelio of Lockney; four sons, Rey Velasquez, Jr. and wife Delma of Edinburg, Jeremiah Velasquez and wife Dora of Shallowater, Alberto Velasquez and wife Valerie of Littlefield, and Adam Velasquez of Hart; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Herman Velasquez of Morringsport, Louisiana, Roger Velasquez and wife Noemi, Floyd Velasquez and wife Sylvia, all of Hart, Max Velasquez and wife Yolanda of Denton; four sisters, Eva Zavala of Plainview, Eloisa Zavala and husband David of Stockton, California, Maria Velasquez of Muleshoe, and Carmen Hinojos and husband Obed of Lubbock. He is preceded in death by

his parents; one grandson, Michael Alexander; one sister, Consuelo Garcia; and four brothers, Robert Velasquez, Alejandro Velasquez, Paul Velasquez and Raymond Velasquez.
