Bettye Cox Wallace, 95 of Canyon, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at the First Methodist Church Canyon with the Rev. Rick Enns officiating. Private interment will be in Happy Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.

Bettye was born in August 1927 in Goodnight, Texas to W.C. “Nealy” and Margaret (Newberry) Cox. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State College in 1947. On May 12, 1948, she married Hardy Elbern Wallace in Canyon. He preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1990.

Bettye was the bookkeeper for Wallace Motor Company in Happy and Dimmitt for 36 years. She was also the secretary and organist for the Methodist Church in Happy for 30 years.

Bettye was a member of Lion’s Club, Panhandle Plains Historical Society and Auxiliary, Canyon Singles, First Methodist Church in Canyon, Crusaders Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and the Cox Family Association. She proudly served as the treasurer for PPHSM Auxiliary, U.M.W., Hill-Hare Circle, and Brandywine Crucible.

Her most loved hobbies were stamp collecting and being the family genealogist.

Bettye was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Hensley and husband, Jim of Conroe, Jana Goss and husband, Keith of Canyon,Amy Gilleland and husband, Gary of Elgin, Oklahoma; son, Eric Wallace of Amarillo; brother, Bill Cox and wife, Julia of Lubbock; 11 grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren;

and numerous

nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First Methodist Church Sharing Fund, 1818 4th Ave, Canyon, TX 79015, in lieu of flowers.
