William Eugene Campbell, born September 27th, 1935, passed away on April 17th, 2026.
Gene was born in Plainview, TX, the oldest son of Martin and Lois Campbell. They moved around the Panhandle area, finally settling in Hereford, TX when he was 10. He was a long-time Hereford resident, living there until 1980.
A graduate of Hereford High School, Gene began following his passion for singing during those years, winning several awards at the high school and collegiate levels. He went on to be a member of the famed Chamber Singers of Hereford. His musical abilities led him to collabora-tions with the likes of Buddy Knox, Lee Murphy, and Bill Dees. He received a music scholar-ship to Texas Tech University, and later transferred to West Texas State University, where he finished his education.
Gene was prominent businessman in Hereford where he worked in Real Estate forming a land-brokerage company. Later in life he went on to become an educator in this field, when he took a teaching position at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville Texas.
Gene is survived by his daughter Ronda Clark of Lubbock, and son Kirk Clark of Webster New York, and grandchildren, Kirk’s children, Dakota Clark, Maggie Clark, and Leo Clark, and great-grandchildren, Dakota’s children, Angela and Giddeon Clark. Other survivors include his sister, Sandra Carthel, her children Chris Carthel of Amarillo, and Christi Kendrick of Fort Worth, and their children Colton and Graceson Carthel, and Sabra Kendrick. Gene was pre-ceded in death by his mother and father, Lois and Martin Campbell, and two brothers Jack M. Campbell and Donnie D. Campbell.
Gene spent his later years in Brownsville, TX, finally settling in Arlington, TX where he spent his final years. He was a loving husband, father, and brother, and a loyal friend to many.
