Landers to retire from DSEC

Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative announced the retirement of Steve Landers after more than 43 years with the cooperative. His retirement was celebrated at come and go reception this past Friday.

Landers is currently the breaker and transformer tech, which means he maintains that equipment for the lineman to use safely out in the field.

“My favorite things about working for the coop have been the customers, DSEC employees, and the work I have proudly done for 43 years,” he said.

Landers has previously been a lineman and a bucket truck operator, among other things.

Johnny Beltran IV, lineman superintendent said, “He was the first lineman to take me up in a bucket and do energized work on the line. We did a lot of fishing together and played several rounds of golf. I will always be grateful for his instruction and friendship. Good luck on your next chapter in life.”

Landers’s plans after retirement include home and yard improvement projects, spending time with his son and grandkids, digging for arrowheads, metal detecting and woodworking. He might also be found looking for lady luck at casinos in Las Vegas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
