We are fortunate to have a Library Advisory Board here at Rhoads Memorial Library who dispenses wise words of wisdom when the occasion calls for it. The five-member board of volunteers is filled by three Dimmitt residents, one Hart resident, and one Nazareth resident.

The Hart position became open Aug. 28, upon the passing of Julia Bennett. Graciously volunteering to replace her is Kellie O’Connor; the board welcomes Kellie and the new perspective she will bring. Rounding out the board is Zetha Collins, Carolyn Watts, and Karen Durham, all of Dimmitt, while Virgil Wilhelm serves in the Nazareth slot.

Some events approaching are: -Thursday, May 4, is the date set for a meeting of the Diabetes Support Group here at Rhoads Memorial Library. It will convene at 5:30 p.m. and close at 6:30 p.m. under the guidance of Courtney Lowe, Health Agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Held in our meeting room, the event is free and open to the public.

-Dimmitt Book Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. at West Texas Coffee on Wednesday, May 10. Members are invited to the annual spring luncheon, Dutch Treat.

A few April Young Scientists’ take-and-make kits are available. Stop by and pick up the fun, educational kit which features the subject of Rain Sticks. The creator of the popular kits for youngsters is Felice Acker, local agent with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Newly released books that have arrived and are ready for checkout include: -”The Loner” (Long, Tall Texans series) by Diana Palmer; -”Where are the Children Now?” (suspense fiction follow up to “Where are the Children?” by Mary Higgins Clark; -”Not the Ones Dead” (crime fiction featuring Kate Shugak) by Dana Stabenow.
