“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.” Psalms 89:1

Love is an overused word in today’s culture. “I love a good steak.” “I love getting Christmas presents.” “I love my family.” In our post-truth culture words have lost much of their meaning. So how do we express love?

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, we must remember the love of God in action. The humiliation of God coming to earth as a human is an extraordinary act of love. An innocent babe born in a stable is a deceptively simple form of love. We often think that for something to be important it requires fancy packaging or creates high demand. The truth is that God loves humanity so much that he came to earth in the form of a helpless infant, intimately connecting with all of creation. Learned to crawl, then to walk– all the while forming relationships and loving peo ple. One day this grand, crazy love would come to fulfillment in an event that would change eternity.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

This Christmas season demonstrate God’s love present in your life by loving others through your actions. What form this takes is up to you but be willing, available, and obedient to God’s calling. An opportunity to do this may seem like a small, insignificant act but when it is in response to God’s intimate presence it will make all the difference in someone’s life.
