First day of school chaos abounds even though social media makes it look like all smiles and eagerness to begin a new year full of experiences and excitement, new friends and schedule. But social media skips the part where the parent is pulling the child out of bed, arguing about the what to wear (the froggy T-shirt was not the choice of the child) and generally urging some breakfast before the bus arrives or the drop off at school occurs.

What is Animal Abuse? Animal abuse, or animal cruelty is the crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity for normal discipline. It can include neglect that is so monstrous (withholding food and water) that the animal has suffered, died or been put in imminent danger of death.

When the school year ends, school personnel tell us, here at Rhoads Memorial Library, that it is our turn to host the children via our summer reading program. We happily do so for two months, then August arrives, and the youngsters begin another school year.

This letter is in response to your recent editorial through which you attempt to lambast “liberals” as being easily offended.

It is that time. Kids will be rolling out of bed after sleeping late all summer; trying to pick out the right shirt and stumbling in the early morning trying to remember when the vacation ended.

(author unknown) A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.

Do you remember the books you read in first grade? I sure do. And I fondly recall spelling tests, recess, flavored milk, and a girl name Lynne.
