The Nazareth Swifts punched their ticket to state, beating the #1 ranked Ira Bulldogs in two of three games in the Regional playoffs this past weekend. Both teams came to the Region I-1A baseball championship series undefeated.

The Swifts came out on top of the pitcher's duel, Trent Gerber from Nazareth and Ira’s Jerek Pena, to take the series lead in the first game last Friday; the Swifts won 3-2. The second game of the series, Ira took the victory, 7-5.

The third game was real nailbiter, with the Swifts pulling off an incredible comeback, winning with a walk-off in 8 innings, 15-14.

Playoff games leading up to the Regional title: Bi-District, Naz vs Follett – 20-0; Quarterfinals, Naz vs. Borden County – 10-0 and 13-0; and Regional Semifinals, Naz vs. Kress - 10-0.

Naz head coach Tyler Goodwin and his father, Ira head coach Toby Goodwin, gave the Regional championships added spice to playoff games in their head-to-head matchup. But in the end, the younger firstyear coach advanced his team to state against the tough Bulldogs.
