Nazareth High School and Hart High School cross country teams competed in the UIL 1A Region 1 Championship Meet on Tuesday at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

The Nazareth girls team qualified to compete at the state meet, placing third overall, as well as Bryson Brockman as an individual runner.

Freshman Madison Brockman was the top runner for Nazareth, placing 13th with a time of 13:26.0 in a field of 153 runners from more than 20 schools in the 2-mile race, followed by sophomore Kelsie Gunter who came in 20th with a time of 13:49.1. The top time came in from Springlake-Earth junior Taytum Goodman with 11:06.4.

Hart freshman America Cardoza placed 74t in the field with a time of 15:26.9.

The top five teams for the girls’ division were Springlake-Earth, White Deer, Nazareth, Jayton and Ackerly Springs.

The Nazareth boys’ cross country team placed sixth overall against more than 17 schools and 132 runners. The top five teams were Jayton, Ackerly Sands, Texline, Happy and Follett.

Junior Bryson Brockman was the top Naz runner coming in 10th with a time of 18:20.3, qualifying him to compete at the state meet. The top runner in the division was junior Wiley Gaskins from Ackerly Sands with a time of 17:22.8.

The Hart boys’ cross country team placed 11th overall with freshman Jose Jimenez being the top runner, placing 44t with a time of 20:11.7.

The State Cross Country Meet will be held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Nov. 5. The Naz girls will run at 11:40 a.m. and Brockman will run at 12:10 p.m.
