The Dimmitt Bobbies softball team fell to the Floydada Whirlwinds, 15-4, in their first game of the season.

The Bobbies got off to slow start in the first innings, going scoreless until the fifth inning when they came through with four runs. Floydada struck gold in the first two innings gaining a fast 13-0 lead and adding two more runs in the fourth innings.

Losing pitcher was Julie LaRue who faced 28 batters, pitching 101 pitches, throwing 61 strikes and 40 balls, allowing six hits, three walks and striking out nine.

Player of the Game was Na’Khiyah Porras who started with a hit in the fifth inning and was the first to score, to start the team rally.

Fielding: Juilia LaRue had one assist and one put out; Nina Vasquez, 11 putouts and caught two runners stealing; 33 strikes and 22 balls, allowing one hit, two walks and six strikeouts.

Fielding: Lali Villarreal had eight putouts; Nina Vasquez had six putouts; Alexis Quiroz had two putouts; Anay Comparan, one putout; Julia LaRue, two assists; and Rosa Comparan, one assist. The team had a total of seven errors.

Player of the Game was Sarah Jennings who has struggled with batting but was on point in the game. She helped her team by being confident in herself and executing her batting skills. Coach Vicki Ruiz said, “We as a team are proud of her accomplishing this.”
