The Dimmitt Booster Club held its annual Meet the Bobbies and Bobcats this week to introduce the football, volleyball, cross country athletes, as well as the marching band, cheerleaders and coaches to kick off the fall sports season. Volleyball is already underway, and cross country meets are coming up fast, along with football scrimmages. Athletes have been conditioning and working out in preparation for a great 2023 season. Boosters Ashlee Nino, Bianca Espinosa, Veronica Lopez, Monica Anima, along with assistance from Paula Jackson and Krisse Bruton organized the event which provided free food and drinks to those attending.

Body

With all the shifting of college football teams over the last two years, there have been some big changes, with 14 of the 133 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of NCAA Division 1 schools officially changing conferences.

Add to the mix all the 2024 changes in the SEC, Big Ten and last year’s Sun Belt moves, and nearly onefi fth of all FBS schools will have changed conferences in a three-year stretch between 2022-24.

For Texas Tech fans, the Red Raiders will be among 14 teams in the Big 12 this season, though there will be some changes in 2024.

Big 12

The 2023 Big 12 will be adding BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF and will have 14 teams overall with other universities being Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, and West Virginia. In 2024, Oklahoma and Texas will be leaving to join the SEC and Colorado will be coming to the Big 12.

Big Ten

In 2023, the Big 10 remain at 14 teams. In 2024, USC and UCLA will join the conference and will include Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA, USC, Wisconsin.

Pac-12

In 2023, the conference will remain at 12 teams, but will lose UCLA and USC in 2024 to the Big 12. At this point, 2024 shows Pac-12 with nine teams including Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Utah, Washington and Washington State.

SEC (Southeastern) The SEC conference is set to have 14 teams in 2023 that includes Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Miss. State, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. The 2023 lineup will see Texas and Oklahoma joining, pushing the number to 16 teams.

AAC (Atlantic Coast) The 2023 ACC conference will have 14 teams this season that include Charlotte, East Carolina, FAU, Memphis, Navy, North Texas, Rice, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB, USF and UTSA. ACC lost Cincinnati, Houston and UCF to the Big 12, but gained Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA.

Conference USA had the most changes for the upcoming season, with six leaving and being replaced by five other teams over the next two seasons. In 2023, the conference will lose Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA to the ACC, and will add Jacksonville State, Liberty, New Mexico State and Sam Houston. The conference will play with nine teams this season. In 2024, Kennesaw State will be joining the lineup.

MAC

MAC will be playing with 12 teams that include Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami (OH), Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

Mountain West

The Mountain West conference will play the 2023 season with 12 teams that include Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawai’i, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State and Wyoming.

Sun Belt

The Sun Belt conference will play the 2023 season with 14 teams as James Madison joined from the FCS while Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss came in from Conference USA. The 2023 lineup for the conference includes Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, James Madison, Louisiana, Marshall, Old Dominion, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Texas State, Troy, and Louisiana Monroe.
