DHS, NHS runners advance to XC state

The Region 1 XC Championships were held this past Monday in Lubbock, with runners from Dimmitt, Nazareth and Hart all competing.

Three runners qualified for state and will advance: Chloe Birkenfeld and Bryson Brockman, Nazareth High School, and Azariah Gonzalez from Dimmitt High School.

The Nazareth girls team placed 7th and Birkenfeld led the pack settling into the top 10 with a 6th place and time of 13:30.2 giving her an individual ticket to state. Birkenfeld competed against 158 runners from 33 schools in the region in the 2-mile race.

The top runner in the girls 1A Regional competition was Taytum Goodman from Springlake with a time of 10:55.2. Taking the top 1A team honors was the Gail Borden XC team.

Bryson Brockman placed place 12th in the boys 1A run with a 19:05.1, earning him a spot at state as an individual. He competed against 136 runners from 33 schools in the 3-mile race.

Taking the top spot in the 1A boys competition was Brandon Passmann from Gutherie with a time of 16:48.5. Top 1A boys team in the region was Texline.

Azariah Gonzalez will be representing Dimmitt at the state meet in the 3A boys competition. He came in 9th at the Regional meet with a time of 17:50.1 in the 3-mile run against a field of 172 from 37 schools. The Dimmitt boys team placed 7th overall.

The top 3A runner at Regionals was Crawford Keyser from Amarillo River Road with a time of 16:34.6. The top boys team was Tuscola Jim Ned.

The trio of runners will be heading for the State XC Meet to be held in Round Rock at Old Settler’s Park on Nov. 6. The 1A 3200-meter girls run begins at 8:30 a.m.; the 1A 5K boys competition begins at 9 a.m.; and the 3A 5K boys run starts at 10:30 a.m.

Tickets for the event will be sold by car and considered entry into the event. It is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance. No cash transactions will be available; only with credit/debit cards Public parking is located in Old Settlers Park off of Hwy 79 only. Please see the map on the UIL web site for details. There will no shuttle buses for spectators. Course maps can also be found on the UIL site for the meet.
