The Dimmitt Bobbies and Bobcats Powerlifting teams participated in meets on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30.

Dimmitt High School hosted both the Dimmitt Invitational Meet and the Bobcat Bash in that order, with boys and girls divisions.

The Bobbies came out on top in team placings in both their meets.

At the Dimmitt Invitational, Minnel Leal placed first in weight class 132; Maraya Corrales placed first in weight class 220; Marilyn Martinez placed first in weight class 259; and Arlene Solis had a first in weight class 259+.

DHS girls lifters Maraya Corrales, Arlene Solis, Kimberly Solis, Marilyn Martinez, Yazmín Barrón, Ashleigh Broom, Alondra Velo, Ariana Perez, Minnel Leal, Jasmine Rodríguez, and Evelyn Salvador for top 12 Regional ranking after their first meet.

The Bobcat Bash was equally successful for the girls team. Earning first place for the Bobbies team were Jasmine Rodriguez in weight class 97; Minnel Leal in weight class 132; Sandra Vasquez in weight class 148; Yazmin Barron in weight class 198;; Marilyn Martinez in weight class 220; and Arlene Solis in Weight Class 259+.

The Bobcats also had some strong lifters at the Dimmitt Invitational with John Wall taking the gold medal in weight class 165; and Gerardo Gonzalas winning weight class 220. Both lifters ranked in the boys Regional division.

The Bobcats placed third among competing teams: Friona, Tulia in first and second, and Frenship, Highland Park and Muleshoe in fourth, fifth and sixth.

At the Bobcat Bash, Gabriel Rayes took first in weight class 132; and Gerardo Gonzalas claimed a second place in 220.

The Bobcats team was in fourth place behind Levelland, Brownfield and Bovina.

Upcoming meets for the DHS powerlifters are set for Feb. 13 at the Levelland Powerlifting Meet; Feb. 20, Highland Park, last girls qualifier; and Feb. 27, Highland Park, last boys qualifier.
