DHS track teams attend Brownfield Cub Relays

The Dimmitt Bobcats and Bobbies varsity and junior varsity track teams competed at the Brownfield Cub Relays this past Friday.

Eight school attended the meet, including Muleshoe, Brownfield, Tahoka, Littlefield, Dimmitt, Sweetwater, Roosevelt and Pecos.

The Bobcats tied for first place with Sweetwater for top team honors, with the Bobbies placing fifth as a team, the Bobcats JV, seventh as a team, and the Bobbies JV,

Top Bobcat varsity performances came from Adan Sanchez, who placed first in the 800-meter run; Azariah Gonzales, first in the 1600- meter and 3200-meter runs; and Raul Cadena, first in shot put.

Coming in behind their teammates with second places were Daunte Perez in triple jump; and Gerardo Gonzales in shot put and discus throw. The Dimmitt relay team of Damian Ariaga, Gerardo Gonzales, Francisco Rio and Cedric Mirelez also placed second in the Big Man Relay.

Picking up third places were Gabriel Ontiveros in the 110- meter hurdles; Gabriel Reyes in pole vault; and Raul Cadena in discus. The 4x400 meter relay team Bradley Romo, Sabian Martinez, Daunte Perez and Gabriel Reyes also placed third.

Varsity boys overall team placings: 1. Dimmitt; 1. Sweetwater; 3. Muleshoe; 4. Littlefield; 5. Brownfield; 6. Roosevelt; 7. Pecos, and 8. Tahoka.

The Bobbies earned several seconds and thirds in the competition. Caitlyn Olmos placed second in the triple jump; and Nissa Sanchez, second in pole vault. Claiming the third places slots were Kaylee Lujan in the 100-meter relay; and Beatriz Lozano, 100-meter hurdles. The relay team of Amy Oviedo Caitlyn Olmos, Makayla Delgado and Alondra Cabrales won the Big Man Relay.

Overall varsity girls team placings: 1. Muleshoe; 2. Brownfield; 3. Tahoka; 4. Littlefield; 5. Dimmitt; 6. Sweetwater; 7. Roosevelt; and 8. Pecos.

Bobcat JV performers staying in the top three of their classes were Vincente Soto, with a first in the triple jump; Effren Torres, second in the 800-meter run; and Diego Santellano, third in pole vault. The Dimmitt relay team placed second in the Big Man Relay.

Bobbies JV top three place earners were Allyson Jones, who placed first in shot put and discus throw; Victoria Hernandez, second in shot put; and Alexa Martinez, third in triple jump.

Bobbies and Bobcats are set to attend the District meet in Denver City on April 11-13. Those finding success at that meet will compete in the Area meet on April 21, also at Denver City, with hopes to advance on to the Regional competition in Abilene on April 29-30.
