The Bobcats ran in a field of 136 athletes from 15 schools in their 3-mile contest at the UIL 3A Region 2 Cross Country Championship held at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock on Monday.

DHS junior Jordan Garcia qualified again for the State Cross Country Meet, running 17th with a time of 18:17.70. The top runner in the event was senior Marco Rey from Presidio with a time of 17:28.30.

Other Bobcats runners included Ethan Garcia, junior, 29th place; Julius Carpio, senior, 68th place; Ryan Nino, junior, 74th; David Fuentes, freshman, 76th; Efrain Torres, senior, 103rd; and Kaeson Melendez, senior, 129th.

The top five boys 3A teams were Presidio, Tuscola Jim Ned, Tornillo, Dublin and Crane. Dimmitt placed 7th.

The Bobbies were among the 136 girls and 16 teams who ran the 2-mile contest Monday at Mae Simmons Park.

DHS runners included JC Sepeda, senior, placing 43rd; Caitlyn Olmos, sophomore, 69th; Rosalinda Comparan, freshman, 108th; Tessa Gomez, freshman, 110th; Amy Oviedo, junior, 113th; Haylie Nino, senior, 127th; and Ariana Perez, senior, 136th.

The top five cross country teams were Holliday, who won Regionals, Spearman, Wall, Bushland, and Peaster, in that order. The Bobbies team effort placed them at 14th.

The top individual runner was Hannah Spears from Holliday with a time of 12:29.10.

The UIL State Cross Country Meet will be in Round Rock on Nov. 23. at Old Settler’s Park.
