Hart defeats Lazbuddie, 61-16

The Hart Longhorns came with a big win over the Lazbuddie Longhorns this past Friday, 61-16.

The Hart team came in with 43 plays for 344 yards and 17 first downs; completed one pass of three for 5 yards; had 40 rushing attempts for 339 yards; one turnover and one penalty for 10 yards.

In the first quarter, Lazbuddie got on the scoreboard first with a touchdown on a 54-yard run and extra points. Hart’s Victor Nunez scored on a 6-yard rush, with extra points from Dominic Dominguez to tie the game, 6-6.

Hart came in with another touchdown with a rush from Braden Diaz, to take the lead 14-8 over Lazbuddie.

Lazbuddie scored another touchdown on a 60-yard run, with extra points on a kick, to take the lead at the end of the first quarter, 16-14.

Hart dominated the rest of the game. In the second quarter, Ely Hernandez scored on an 11-yard rush, with extra points from Draven Dominguez to edge over Lazbuddie, 22-16. Hernandez came in with another touchdown on a 50-yard run, ending the first half with a Hart lead of 28-16.

Hart continued to bulldoze their way to uprights in the third quarter with a 42-yard run by Ely Hernandez, making the score 34-16. Braden Diaz added a touchdown on a 5-yard rush, with extra points from Draven Dominguez, followed by another touchdown by Hernandez on an 8-yard rush, ending the third quarter with a Hart lead of 48-16.

The fourth quarter, Hart added a touchdown by Hugo Perez on a 12-yard rush, and Victor Nunez scored on an interception, to close out the game and victory by Hart, 61-16.

Top passer was Ely Hernandez with one completion of two attempts for 5 yards.

Leading rusher was Ely Hernandez with 19 attempts for 217 yards and four touchdowns; Victor Nunez, eight rushes for 65 yards and one touchdown; Braden Diaz, eight rushes for 32 yards and two touchdowns; and Hugo Perez, four rushes for 27 yards and one touchdown.

Top receiver was Noah Marin with one reception for 5 yards.

Leading the defense was Victor Nunez with eight tackles, four solo and one interception; Ely Hernandez, 5.5 tackles, four solo; Noah Marin, 4.5 tackles, one solo and one interception; Draven Dominguez, 2.5 tackles; Dominic Dominguez, 2.5 tackles and one interception; Braden Diaz, one tackle; and Hugo Perez, one tackle.

The Hart Longhorns travel to play the Amherst this Friday at 7:30 p.m. The final regular season game will be at home against Cotton Center on Nov. 4.

According to MaxPreps stats, Hart currently has a season record of 5-3, 1-1. Whitharral is leading in 1A 6-man, Region I, Dist. 2 football conference play with a 6-1, 2-0 season record; Amherst, 6-1, 1-0; Cotton Center, 2-5,0-1; and Lazbuddie, 2-5, 0-2. Both Whitharral and Amherst are on 4 game winning streaks.
