Longhorns defeat Elks 73-13

The Hart Longhorns came in with a big win over the Cotton Center Elks, 73-13, in their final game of the season.

The Longhorns dominated the game, getting things started in the first quarter with a 45yard run and touchdown by Hugo Perez, with Draven Dominguez putting up two extra points. Perez added another touchdown on a 32-yard run, with Dominguez adding the extra points, to put Hart in the lead, 16-0.

Diego Velasquez scored a touchdown on a 3-yard run, with Dominguez adding the extra points, followed by a 3yard run by Dominguez for a touchdown, putting the score at 30-0.

Kaleb Chavez rushed for 7 yards and another touchdown, with the extra points good by Dominguez; and Victor Nunez added another touchdown on a 10-yard rush, pushing the Longhorn’s lead to 44-0.

Cotton Center finally on the scoreboard on a 37-yard rush, but unable to make the conversion, closing the first quarter with the Longhorns leading 44-6.

The second quarter, the Longhorns added another touchdown by Braden Diaz on an 8-yard run.

Cotton Center answered with a touchdown on a 45-yard return for a touchdown and extra points.

Longhorns Noah Marin rushes for 47 yards, adding another Hart touchdown, with extra points by Dominguez, followed by another touchdown on a 5-yard run by Hernandez, and extra points by Dominguez.

Hart put the final points on the board on a recovered punt block by Braden Diaz, closing the victory out at 73-13.

Hart came in with 22 plays for rushing 286 yards, 13 first downs and one turnover.

Rushing leaders were Hugo Perez with two rushes for 77 yards and two touchdowns; Noah Marin, one rush for 47 yards and one touchdown; Victor Nunez, two rushes for 43 yards and one touchdown; Jared Hernandez, five rushes for 39 yards; Braden Diaz, four rushes for 35 yards and one touchdown; Ely Hernandez, two rushes for 23 yards and one touchdown; Diego Velasquez, two rushes for 12 yards and one touchdown; Kaleb Chavez, one rush for 7 yards and one touchdown; and Draven Dominguez, one rush for 3 yards.

Defensive leaders were Draven Dominguez, 4.5 tackles, four solo; Dominic Dominguez, three tackles, three solo; Ely Hernandez, three tackles, three solo; Noah Marin, two tackles, two solo; Victor Nunez, 1.5 tackles, one solo; and Hugo Perez, one tackle.

The Longhorns close out their regular season with a 6-4, 2-2 record and third in district behind district leader Whitharral, 9-1,4-0, and second place Amherst, 8-2, 3-1. Lazbuddie 3-6, 1-3, and Cotton Center, 28, 0-4.
