Naz, Hart tracksters qualify for regionals

It was a big Area track meet for the Castro County 1A athletes last week, with around 24 qualifying to compete at Regional individual and relay events, with 19 from Nazareth and five from Hart.

The Nazareth girls team won a team first place, with the Naz boys earning fifth place; Hart girls and boys teams were both eighth.

Nazareth girls first place earners were Iris Schilderink in shot put; Caroline Myrick, long jump; Chloe Birkenfeld, 400-meter dash; and 4x400 Relay, Tatum Peterson, Chloe Birkenfeld, Maddie Brockman and Caroline Myrick. Second place winners were Caroline Myrick, 200meter dash; and Townli Wheeler, triple jump.

Others qualifying in third and fourth place in various events were Maddie Brockman, Brooklyn Birkenfeld, Emerson Moore, Presley Wheeler and Clementine Myrick.

Naz boys qualifying were Kayle Rogers, with a second in shot put; Sterl Welps, second in discus; 4x 100 Relay team members Blaise Snead, Reid Backus, Will Young, Bradyn Bullard, at fourth place; Bradyn Bullard, third in 200 meter dash; Simon Snead, third in 1600 meter; and 4x400 Relay, fourth, Bryson Brockman, Adrian Rios, Bradyn Bullard, Reid Backus.

Hart came through with Toree Jo Evans leading the way with a first place in both the 100- and 200- meter dash; the boys 4x100 Relay at third place, Brayden Diaz, Draven Dominguez, Noah Marin and Ely Hernandez; Ely Hernandez, fourth, 100 meters; and Draven Dominguez, third in shot put.

Nazareth and Hart Regional qualifiers will be competing at South Plains College for a ticket to this Friday and Saturday.
