The Texas Rangers made more organizational changes with the dismissal of Jon Daniels , now the former president of baseball operations and former general manager.

After 17 years of leading the club, Daniels' departure came two days after manager Chris Woodward was fired in his fourth season.

Team owner Ray Davis said that Daniels was being relieved of his duties immediately following a decision to renew his contract at the end of this season. Executive vice president and general manager Chris Young will assume oversight of the position.

The Texans, in 2022, will have a six-year losing record and the franchises longest losing streak since moving to Texas.

In a release, Davis said the club has not had a winning record since 2016 and for much of that time, have not been competitive in the A.L. West Division. He said it was time for a change in leadership.

Daniels had been in the position since March 2013 and has been with the Rangers organization since 2002. He was appointed the eighth general manager in 2005, and the youngest general manager in ever in the majors at 28 years old. The title of president of operations was added in 2013. He held both titles until Young was brought in as general manager in December 2020.

The Rangers made their only World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011, then won AL West titles again in 2015 and 2016.

Davis said Young, a former MLB pitcher and Dallas native, will assume oversight of all aspects of the baseball operations department. He was a senior vice president for Major League Baseball when he was hired by the Rangers as general manager.

The next full-time manager will be the fourth for Texas since 2005. Interim manager Tony Beasley, the third base coach since 2015 and longesttenured member of the coaching staff, will be given consideration for the full-time job.
