The Nazareth Swiftettes defeated the Happy Cowgirls in a district game, 46-15.

Nazareth took charge of the net in the first quarter, pushing out ahead of the Cowgirls 16-2.

The Swiftettes continued to offensively dominate the Cowgirls, while the defense held Happy to a single point in the third quarter, to close the first half out, 33-3.

Happy struggled to score in the third and fourth quarters and were unable to close the big Nazareth lead and lost the district game to the Swiftettes, 46-15.

Nazareth shot for 45% (17/38) from the field; 83% (5/6) on free throws; and collected 17 assists, 11 steals, and 20 rebounds.

Swiftettes top shots were Merry Gerber with 17 points, one defensive rebound, three assists, and one foul; Jaden Pigg with nine points, one defensive rebound and two steals; Makenzy Coralles with six points, four assists and four steals; Addie Dyer with five points, one offensive and defensive rebound; Tatum Peterson with three points, two offensive rebounds, three defensive rebounds, two assist and one steal; Emma Kleman with two points three offensive rebounds, three assists, two steals and one foul; Iris Schilderink with two points, three defensive rebounds, one steal and one foul; and Harley Gerber with two points, one offensive and defensive rebound, one assist and one foul.

Contributing players included Presley Wheeler with two defensive rebounds, three assists, one steal and one foul; Bliss Betzen with one defensive rebound; and Maggie Nelson with one assist and two fouls.

The Swiftettes will play at Hartley on Jan. 22.

Current standings in Region 1 District 3, according to Max-Preps, show Nazareth leading the district (17-3, 7-0), followed by Happy (13-6, 5-2), Wildorado (6-10, 2-2), Adrian (0-5, 0-2), Channing (0-6, 0-3), Hartley (0-3, 0-3), and Texline (1-4, 0-3).

Statewide, the Swiftettes remain the 1A top ranked team. While they have three losses, those are to 5A Amarillo, 6A Frenship and 4A Canyon.

Currently the top five girls 1A teams in the state, as per the Jan. 11 TGCA poll, are Nazareth, Dodd City, Rankin, Follett, Gutherie, Lorenzo, Westbrook, Veribest, Iredell and Munday.
