Swifts defeat Buffalos, 50-0

The Nazareth Swifts took a big conference win over the Petersburg Buffalos on Oct. 8, 50-0, in three quarters of play.

The first quarter, the Luke Schulte came in with two touchdowns, one on a 12-yard rush and the second on a 3-yard rush, with extra points from Trent Gerber, to put Nazareth up 16-0 over the Buffalos.

The second quarter saw the Swifts continue to add to their lead, with three more touchdowns from Schulte, on a 7-yard rush, a 17-yard rush and a 10-yard rush, with extra points from Gerber. Brett Young scored a touchdown on a 3-yard pass from Sterl Welps, closing the first half out with 37-0 lead over Petersburg.

The third and final quarter, The Swifts scored two more touchdowns by Gerber on a 6-yard rush and extra point by Young, and Welps on a 3-yard rush, to give Nazareth another conference win, 50-0.

Nazareth logged in 14 first downs, 30 rushes for 164 yards, one reception for 30 yards, one of six passing completions for 30 yards, three penalties for 21 yards and 12 tackles.

Passing leader was Trent Gerber with one of five completions for 30 yards.

Rushing leaders were Luke Schulte with 20 rushes for 124 yards and five touchdowns; Sterl Welps, nine rushes for 34 yards one touchdown; and Trent Gerber with one rush for six yards.

Top receiver for the Swifts was Kayle Rogers with one reception for 30 yards.

Defensive leaders were Kayle Rogers and Brett Heitschmidt, each with four tackles; Sterl Welps with two tackles and one interception; Trent Gerber with 1.5 tackles; and Will Young with 0.5 tackles.
