The Nazareth Swifts came out on top against the Hart Longhorns this past Friday, 67-6.

Nazareth offense got things started in the first quarter with a run by Luke Schulte with a 31-yard run for a Swifts touchdown, with Brett Heitschmidt scoring the extra two point.

Swifts Will Young scored another Naz touchdown on an 11-yard rush, with Heitschmidt scoring the extra points to put Nazareth ahead, 16-0, over the Longhorns.

Heitschmidt added another touchdown on an 11-yard pass from Young, to close the first quarter 22-0.

The second quarter saw Longhorns Ely Hernandez put Hart on the scoreboard with a 62-yard rush, narrowing the Naz lead to 22-6.

Schulte answered with a 62-yard rush for a touchdown and Heitschmidt added the extra points to widen Swifts’ lead to 30-6.

Taking advantage of a Longhorn fumble, Sterl Welps made a 31-yard return for a touchdown, with Heitschmidt scoring the extra points, pushing the score to 38-6 over Hart. Welps added another touchdown on a 2yard rush, putting the score at 44-6.

Schulte came in with an 11-yard rush and extra point, pushing the Naz lead to 51-6, followed by Welps touchdown on a 14-yard rush, with extra points from Heitschmidt. Kayle Rodgers scored on a 39-yard rush with extra points by Heitschmidt.

The game ended at halftime with a Nazaeth victory, 67-6.

The Swifts had 19 plays and the Longhorns had 28. The Swifts came in with 279 offensive yards; Hart has 89 offensive yards. Rushing saw Naz with13 attempts for 212 yards; and Hart with 13 attempts for 74 yards.

The Swifts passed for 64 yards in four completions of six attempts; the Longhorns had 15 yards in four completions of 15 attempts. Nazareth had two penalties for 21 yards; Hart had six penalties for 27 yards.

Rushing leader for Hart was Ely Hernandez with eight for 80 yards and one touchdown; followed by Draven Dominguez with two rushes for 13 yards; and Brayden Diaz, four rushes for 1 yard. Rushing leader for Nazareth was Luke Schulte with six rushes for 129 yards and three touchdowns; Kayle Rodgers, one rush for 39 yards and a touchdown; Sterl Welps, three rushes for 22 yards and two touchdowns; and Will Young, three rushes for 20 yards and one touchdown.

Hart passing leader was Draven Dominguez with one completion of four attempts for 14 yards; Noah Marin, two completions for three attempts for 12 yards; and Ely Hernandez with one completion of five attempts.

Luke Schulte led the Naz passing with two of three attempts for 35 yards; Will Young two completions of three attempts for 26 yards.

Top receivers for the Swifts were Brett Heitschmidt with two receptions for 35 yards and one touchdown; and Sterl Welps, two receptions for 26 yards.

Hart’s top receivers were Hugo Perez and Draven Dominguez, each with one reception for 6 yards; and Noah Marin with two receptions for 1 yard. Defensive leaders for the Swifts were Will Young with 2.5 tackles; Tell Bagley, two tackles; Luke Schulte, two tackles; Brett Heitschmidt, 1.5 tackles; Tanner Birkenfeld, 1.0 tackles; Kayle Rodgers, 1.0 tackles; and Caysen High, 0.5 tackles.

Leading the defense for the Longhorns was Jonathan Mejia with five tackles; Dominic Domingues, four tackles and four assists; Draven Dominguez, 1.5 tackles and three assists; Ely Hernandez, 1.5 tackles and one assist; and Noah Marin, one tackle.
