Whitharral, a UIL 6-man division II school, is ranked seventh in their division by Max-Preps.

Nazareth gave the Panthers all they wanted, but five turnovers against two for Whitharral hurt the Swifts. Nazareth fell behind in the second quarter and couldn’t catch up.

Nazareth scored first blood on a 7-yard run by freshman Zane Schulte. Whitharral answered with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Jack Griffin to Brolin Kennedy.

The Swifts’ next score came on an 8-yard pass from Will Young to Kayle Rogers, but it was again matched by the Panthers with a 40-yard pass from Kennedy to Brent Robinson.

The first quarter ended with the score tied at 16.

The Panthers went ahead by two touchdowns in the second quarter on a 22-yard run by Griffin followed by a 49-yard touchdown pass from Griffin to Dawson Rodgers.

Nazareth answered with a

up short in a 62-36 home loss to 11th ranked Whitharral Panthers 32-yard pass from Young to Cayson High. The kick missed, however, and the first half ended with the Panthers up 32-22.

The Swifts weren’t finished. They cut the Whitharral lead to 32-30 early in the third quarter with a 30-yard pass from Young to Reid Backus.

Whitharral was able to answer before the quarter ended with a 22-yard run from Rodgers for a 40-30 lead.

The Panthers were able to go up 48-30 early in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard run by Robinson, but the Swifts answered again with a 36-yard pass from Young to High.

The Swifts weren’t able to score again, while Whitharral put two more touchdowns on the scoreboard.

A one-yard touchdown run by Robinson put the Panthers up 54-36, then a 50-yard touchdown from Robinson late in the game sealed Nazareth’s fate.

Schulte had 100 yards on 28 carries with a touchdown. Rogers had a single five-yard carry. Owen Dyer had one carry for 4 yards. Young had three carries for 2 yards and Alejandro Guerrero had a single carry for no yards.

Young went 9-for-17 passing for 184 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions. Schulte went 3-for-6 for 61 yards with an interception.

Backus had five catches for 119 yards and a touchdown. High had four catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Schulte had two catches for 16 yards. Rogers had a single 8-yard touchdown catch.

Backus had four tackles and two interceptions. Young and Guerrero each had three tackles. Schulte had two. High, Jesse Acher and Daniel Schacher had one each.

The Swifts will host Miami at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
