Swifts shut out Valley

Sterl Welps didn’t allow a single run as the Nazareth Swifts defeated Valley 20-0 on Monday. Welps allowed just three hits.

Luke Schulte led Nazareth to victory by driving in six runs. Schulte went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in runs on a home run in the third and a double in the fifth.

The Swifts got things started in the first inning when Braden Bullard’s sac fly scored one run, and then the team scored six runs in the second inning. The big inning was driven by singles by Owen Dyer, Tanner Birkenfeld and a double by Will Young.

Nazareth launched three home runs on the day. Birkenfeld and Schulte each put one out in the third inning; Welps went deep in the fourth inning.

The Swifts scattered 14 hits in the game. Tell Bagley, Brett Heitschmidt, Birkenfeld, Welps, and Schulte each managed multiple hits. Bagley went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the team.

Sterl Welps led Nazareth to victory on the mound, throwing 47 strikes for 61 pitches with 10 strikeouts, surrendering runs on three hits over five innings, striking out ten and walking zero.
