The Nazareth Swifts scored a solid win against the Claude Mustangs this past Friday. 52-38

Ṅazareth took control of the game early with Kayle Rogers scoring on a 2-yard rush and Trent Gerber adding extra points. Gerber then scored on an interception along with the extra points, putting the Swifts ahead 16-0 at the end of the first quarter.

As the second quarter started, Sterl Welps scored on a rush and Gerber came in with two extra points bringing the score to 24-0.

Kayle Rogers scored on a Claude fumble and 20-yard return, to put Nazareth up by 30-0.

Claude finally put points on the board on a 40-yard rush and two extra points, narrowing the Swifts lead slightly, 30-8, but Nazareth answered with another touchdown by Sterl Welps on a 14-yard pass by Gerber and extra points by Gerber, to end the first half with a strong Naz lead, 36-8.

The Swifts got the third quarter started with Brett Heitschmidt scoring on a 23-yard pass from Gerber, widening the Naz lead to 44-8.

Claude scored on a rush and extra points, putting the score at 44-16.

Welps came in with another touchdown on a 4-yard rush and extra points from Gerber, pushing the Swifts lead to 52-16

Ċlaude scored on a 48-yard rush and extra points, closing the Naz lead to 52-22.

The fourth quarter, Claude scored two more touchdowns and extra points to close the game out with Nazareth win,52-38.

Nazareth had 162 rushing yards and 90 passing yards with six of eight completions, two fumbles, five penalties and 27 tackles.

Swifts rushing leaders were Sterl Welps with 27 rushes, 140 yards, two touchdowns and one fumble; Trent Gerber with four rushes for 17 yards; and Kayle Rogers, three rushes for seven yards and one touchdown.

Swifts passing leader was Trent Gerber with six of eight completions for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Top Naz receivers were Brett Heitschmidt with three receptions for 76 yards and one touchdown; Sterl Welps, one reception for 14 yards and one touchdown; and Kayle Rogers for two receptions.

Defensive leaders for Nazareth were Reid Backus with 5.5 tackles, 12 yards and one interception; Trent Gerber with 0.5 tackles, 10 yards and two interceptions; Brett Heitschmidt with eight tackles; Sterl Welps with 6.5 tackles; Owen Dyer with two tackles; and Kayle Rogers with 4.5 tackles.
