The Swifts kicked off their season participating in the Ira Tournament, losing two games and winning two.

Swift v Hermleigh

The Swifts defeated Hermleigh 13-2 on Thursday thanks to seven runs in the first inning.

Braden Bullard, Tanner Birkenfeld, Sterl Welps, Jack Welps, Brett Heitschmidt, and Owen Dyer all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Welps led the Swifts to victory on the hill with 34 pitches and three strikeouts. The lefty surrendered one run on one hit over two innings and walked three. Bullard threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen for 18 pitches, giving up one hit and one run, and one walk, and recorded the last three outs.

Nazareth totaled nine hits in the game. Birkenfeld, Dyer, and Bullard all managed multiple hits, and. Bullard, Dyer, and Birkenfeld each managed two hits.

The Swifts had one error.

Swifts v Borden County Carson Heiman threw a gem on Friday for the Swifts, allowing zero runs and besting Borden County by a score of 8-0 The Swifts secured the victory thanks to six runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught was led by Owen Dyer, Carson Heiman, Sterl Welps, Jack Welps, and Brett Heitschmidt, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Nazareth got things moving in the first inning, when Tanner Birkenfeld singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Heiman was the winning pitcher with 65 strikes for 85 pitches over six innings, striking out nine and walking zero, and surrendering no runs on four hits.

Swifts v Trinity Christian

The Swifts fell to Trinity Christian in the third game of the tourney, 8-1.

Trinity Christian took an early lead with five runs, with Naz putting single run on the board. Trinity added another three runs in the third innings.

Sterl Welps took the loss for the Swifts, pitching two innings with 32 strikes and one strikeout in 69 pitches, surrendering six hits, eight runs and five walks; Tanner Birkenfeld pitched 22 strikes in 34 pitches with three strikeouts in two inning, and surrendered one walk.

Swifts v Ira

The Swifts fell to Ira in the fourth game of the tournament, 3-2.

Nazareth put a run on the board in the first inning and added another in the sixth, with Ira scoring three runs in the fifth.

Pitcher Tanner Birkenfeld took the loss, with 43 strikes in 73 pitches, with eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings, surrendering three hits, three runs and one walk. Will Young pitched for 1.1 innings for 12 strikes in 22 pitches with one strikeout, surrendering two walks.
