Texas passes on EBT summer lunch program

Texas is one of 15 states opting out of federal funding for the USDA summer lunches program. This year 35 states will participate in a $2.5 billion federal nutrition program offering free school meals during the summer.

Swiftettes capture Area title

The Nazareth Swiftettes clenched the Area title last Thursday, beating the Follett Lady Panthers, 76-12. The Swiftettes took command in the first quarter, gaining a lead of 19-5 and hit another 17 points in the second quarter, giving them a big lead as the first half came to an end, 36-8.

Swiftettes capture Regional Quarters

The Nazareth Swiftettes continued advancing in the playoffs, defeating the Silverton Lady Owls in the Regional quarterfinals, 55-38. The Swiftettes gained a six-point edge in the first quarter, and battled to hang onto the lead, with the Lady Owls putting up 13 points in the second quarter to Naz’s 10 points, closing the first half out leading 23- 20.

Swifts claim Bi-District title

The Nazareth Swifts brough home the Bi-District title,after defeating the Adrian Matadors 86-24 in the first round of the playoffs at Amarillo Caprock High School. The Nazareth offense dominated throughout the game, taking a halftime lead of 45-11, and putting another 41 points on the scoreboard, while holding Adrian to a 13-point gain by the time the final buzzer sounded.

Wales initiated into Phi Kappa Phi

Halley Wales of Dimmitt, Texas, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Wales was initiated at Texas Tech University.
