The West Texas A&M University marching band has advanced to the finals of metal band Metallica’s “For Whom the Band Tolls” contest. Bands from around the country are competing to win musical instruments for their programs, furnished by Metallica and its sponsors.

The Nazareth Swifts claimed a big victory over the Amarillo Flames, 75-36. The Swifts took charge in the first quarter, gaining a 21-9 lead and continued to out-shoot the Flames in the second quarter closing the first half ahead 37-20.

The Nazareth Swifts claimed a victory over the Dimmitt Bobcats, 48-37. The Bobcats came in with seven of 31 2-pointers, five of 17 3-pointers, eight of 13 free throws, seven offensive rebounds, 16 defensive rebounds, five assists, seven deflections, 12 steals, three blocks, 15 turnovers, 17 fouls, and one charge taken.

The Dimmitt Bobbies played three games at the Dimmitt basketball tourney against Lubbock Cooper, Amarillo High JV and Bushland. Bobbies v Lbbk Cooper The Bobbies fell to Lubbock Cooper, 27-59.

The High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD) is accepting proposal requests and is looking for innovative ideas that will help conserve water. Proposals for a water conservation research, demonstration, or education project will be reviewed by HPWD Research/ Demonstration Committee and Board of Directors.

The Dimmitt Bobbies competed at the Vega basketball tournament this past weekend and came in with one win and two losses. Bobbies v Vega 12/01 The Bobbies hit 11 of 26 2-point shots, six of 22 free throws, had three offensive rebounds, 27 defensive rebounds, nine assists, six defl ections, two steals, 22 turnovers and 21 fouls.

Amarillo College announced it would be serving as the regional facilitator for peace officer active shooter training in a threeyear agreement. AC said it and Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) signed a memorandum establishing that the college would serve as the regional training hub for state-mandated active shooter training.

The Dimmitt Bobcats defeated the Olton Mustangs 52-44 on Nov. 28.

Nazareth held its annual basketball tournament this past weekend. Seminole took the championship in the girls division, and Shallowater claimed the honors in the boys division.
