For some unknown reason, newlyreleased books trickled in slowly here at Rhoads Memorial Library during the month of May. Thankfully June is proving to be more fruitful, as nine books arrived in one delivery (usually it takes an entire month for us to receive 15 from our main vendor).
Samantha Fulkerson, Nazareth High School graduate, received the Catholic Life Insurance All-American Scholar Award. Fulkerson, the daughter of John and Angela Fulkerson, plans to attend the University of Dallas-Iving, Texas, this fall. A total of 35 seniors received the $1,000 All-American Scholarship from Catholic Life Insurance.

John Deere announces more layoffs

John Deere will be cutting an undisclosed number of employees in the global production and salaried workforce, according to an email letter sent to employees last Friday.
Pablo Perez visited with former Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance recently to discuss opportunities that the university can provide for students as well as the support that the system can foment success. Both Perez and Hance claim Dimmitt as their hometown. Perez recently graduated from Dimmitt High School last and plans to major in chemistry at TTU. Hance is a Dimmitt native who is the third and longest serving chancellor of the TTU system until his retirement in July 2014.

The Red, White & Moo Freedom Parade & Milk Fest, along with various other activities, will be held July 4 in Plainview.Activities will begin with the Red, White & Moo Freedom Parade at 10 a.m.Downtown Plainview / Main Street will be coordinating the parade; participants are welcome.
