Hegar transfers $8.5B to Rainy Day Fund

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he has completed the transfer of about $3.06 billion into the State Highway Fund (SHF) and $5.46 billion to the Economic Stabilization Fund (ESF); commonly known as the “Rainy Day Fund”).

The Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce kicked off the holiday season with its annual Parade of Lights last Thursday evening. Castro County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Santa Sam Cavazos apprehended the Grinch as he tried to spoil the parade. The Grinch was eventually delivered to the County Jail without incident.

State sales tax revenue $4.1B

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced state sales tax revenue totaled $4.1 billion in November, 3.7 percent more than in November 2022. The majority of November sales tax revenue is based on sales made in October and remitted to the agency in November.

The Dimmitt Bobcats were defeated by the Hale Center Owls, 72-45. Hale Center took the lead 23-12 over the Bobcats in the first quarter. The Bobcats battled in the second quarter, out scoring the Owls, but still trailed by five points at the end of the first half, 36-31.

Texas A&M University has named Mike Elko, head coach at Duke University and former Texas A&M defensive coordinator, to be head coach for Aggies football. The hiring was announced by TAMU Director of Athletics Ross Bjork.

The Native American Guardian Association (NAGA) has filed a lawsuit advocating for restoring the name Redskins to the National Football League (NFL)’s Washington. The group alleges that a rival Native American organization improperly prompted the change to the team now called the Commanders.
