Castro County will see more highway construction in the future as Governor Greg Abbott announced a record $142 billion in total investment for Texas’ transportation infrastructure, much of which will improve HWY 385 which is traveled heavily by truck transportation.

The Texas A&M Forest Service announced the opening of emergency grant applications after a recent wildfire disaster declaration. The grants were for volunteer fire departments.

The Castro County Fair and Harvest Days Celebration is coming up fast and is scheduled for Aug. 25-26. The theme this year is “Paradise on the Plains.” Entries and exhibits should be brought to the Dimmitt City Hall on Friday between noon and 6 p.m.

Amarillo ISD ramps up school security

Amarillo ISD’s school board discussed Monday at a meeting how House Bill 3 and House Bill 114 would be implemented across the district. House Bill 3 requires that each school district has an armed security officer present at each campus.
