Governor Greg Abbott last Thursday issued an executive order authorizing and empowering the Texas National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety to apprehend illegal immigrants who cross the border between ports of entry and return them to the border.

Odessa man sentenced for murder of brother

An Odessa man accepted a plea deal on Tuesday and will serve 12 years for the murder of his brother, Raymond Hernandez, on Sept. 20, 2020, in Lubbock. James Hernandez will also receive credit for time already served.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributed $1.3 billion in sales tax revenue to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts in July, 15.3 percent higher than in July 2021. Locally, Castro County received $21,815, up by 34.88 percent from last year in the same period.
