O’Neill appointed CDC acting director

The Department of Health and Human Services announced that Susan Monarez is no longer director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Jim O’Neill will be the acting director as of Aug. 29.Monarez was confirmed as director by the Senate on July 29.

The Nazareth FFA freshmen students attended the Greenhand conference at West Texas A&M in Canyon on Tuesday. Attendees included FFA members from Area 1 chapters across the Texas Panhandle. Students had the opportunity to attend leadership skills workshops, delve deeper into what FFA offers, participate in hands-on and interactive “Agrastics” events, as well as build connections with other students in the region.

DHS, HHS robotics teams attend game reveal event

The Dimmitt High School Robotics team kicked off their new competitive season with enthusiasm and leadership by attending the reveal event, DECODE, hosted by the Texas Tech Engineering Department at Region 17 in Lubbock on Sept. 6.

DPS to enforce language requirement for commercial licenses

Governor Greg Abbott last Friday directed the Texas DPS to strictly enforce the English language proficiency requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulation.
