The Hereford, Umbarger and Dawn Volunteer Fire Departments have been busy along with other area departments and first responders battling grass fires that broke out late last week all around the Panhandle. Because of extremely dry conditions fires are spreading rapidly. A full report will be featured in Saturday’s BRAND.

Hereford High School’s senior class will celebrate its graduation at Whiteface Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22.In the event of bad weather, the ceremony will move indoors to the Varsity Gym. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m.

All eyes on car, prize giveaways at HISD graduation Friday

A year long incentive to increase attendance among Hereford High School seniors culminates Friday evening when one lucky senior wins a new 2026 Chevy Trax donated by Isaac and Rita Walker of Stevens 5-Star Car & Truck Center.Graduation is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Whiteface Stadium.

Washington and Lee University senior Celeste Álvarez ’26 has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) to teach English in Guatemala. At W&L, Álvarez is a sociology and anthropology major with minors in art history and Latin American and Caribbean Studies.

On Sunday, June 28, all of Hereford is invited to a combined church service in Dameron Park for the 250th celebration of religious freedom.America was founded on the freedom to worship God in our own way.There will be a time capsule placed in the courthouse lawn to be opened on June 28, 2076.
