Amarillo, Lubbock report on Covid-19

Amarillo health officials reported a drop of 473 net active COVID-19 cases and a drop in the region's hospitalization rate this past Tuesday.

Hospitalizations in Potter and Randall counties for Covid patients is at 3.59%. Total adult bed utilization in the hospitals (all patients) is at 89%.

According to the Amarillo Public Health Department, there are 3,389 active cases in the Amarillo area.

In total, APHD has reported 54,688 positive COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, including 145 new cases today.

Of those patients, 50,314 have recovered from the disease and 985 have died, with no new deaths reported since the last report card on Thursday.

The Lubbock County reported 123 new cases and 106 Covid patients (19 fully vaccinated) in the hospital.

On Tuesday, Texas Tech University Bioterrorism Response Laboratory notified the City of Lubbock Public Health Department of lab results confirming the COVID-19 omicron variant. The individuals were tested at the city-sponsored testing site on Dec. 14 and 16, and subsequent genotyping analysis identified the omicron variant. These are the first confirmed cases of the variant in the Lubbock area.

In total, Lubbock has reported 69,419 positive cases since the pandemic began and 956 deaths.
