DISD program to honor veterans

Dimmitt ISD Student Council and Gifted and Talented will be hosting the annual Veterans Day program on Nov. 9. The program will be held at the Dimmitt Middle School Auditorium and will begin at 5:30 p.m. DHS HOSA aides will be available to assist veterans with wheelchairs and walkers.
The Nazareth Cross Country team, coached by Whitney Bryan, is headed to UIL State XC meet in Round Rock. The girls’ team qualified at Regionals earning third place; Bryson Brockman earned his ticket to state as an individual runner in 14th place. Members of the girls team are Madison Brockman, Chloe Birkenfeld, Kelsie Gunter, Lexi Ramaekers, Mallory Wilhelm, Bridget Osterkamp and Kambri Cleavinger

State lawmakers considered legislation that would prohibit private employers from requiring their employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Senate Bill 7 falls in line with Gov. Greg Abbott’s call to protect the freedom of Texans, though some business groups have offered criticism.

“It’s Game Time!” was the theme of Kylene Black’s program presented recently at Dimmitt Book Club’s meeting here at Rhoads Memorial Library. She distributed questionnaires among members asking about their favorite book genre, author, childhood stories, etc.
The Dimmitt Police Department took time out of their busy schedules to spend time with the students at Doricell Davis First Steps on Tuesday. Officers visited with children from most of the classes and gave them an up-close view of patrol cars.

The West Texas A&M University horse judging team ranked highly at a recent national competition ahead of upcoming world-championship contests. The team ranked third overall among all teams at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress on Oct. 11 in Columbus, Ohio.

Rivera to head SAT Membership Committee

Sheriffs’ Association of Texas President Sheriff Larry Smith a has appointed Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera to be the Chairman of the Membership Committee for the association. The appointment began Oct. 12, and will runs through the current SAT president’s term which is 2023-2024.
