Wolfforth man pleads guilty in death of son

A Wolfforth man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault in the 2021 death of his 3-monthold son. On Nov. 21, Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to residence in Wolfforth where they found the baby, Benjamin Ortega, in cardiac arrest.

The Dimmitt ISD trustees held their regular meeting on July 10, hearing reports from the superintendent and approving contracts as the new school year approaches.

The annual Bethel Community Chicken Fry is on the calendar for Aug. 10. The popular community event will be held at Greg Sides’ house at 1905 FM 1524 and will begin at 7 p.m. Attendees should bring lawn chairs and a side dish or dessert that evening.

The Dimmitt Police Department and Dimmitt Fire Department were called to the scene of a one-car accident at the intersection of FM 3215 and Hwy 385. There were no injuries, but the vehicle in the crash went into the ditch and caused a gas leak.
