The Real Hope and Anchor

This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil. Hebrews 6:19 We have a pub in our town called, The Hope and Anchor. It was once for sale, and I had the idea of purchasing it and turning it into a friendly coffee shop. With a name like that, it would lend itself as a home for those in the community who hoped for a fresh start to life. I would have called it The Real Hope and Anchor.

USDA announces assistance to dairy farmers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced the details of additional assistance for dairy producers, including a second round of payments through the Pandemic Market Volatility Assistance Program (PMVAP) and a new Organic Dairy Marketing Assistance Program (ODMAP).

U.S., Mexico agreement on GMO corn trade stalls

Mexico has failed to satisfy the concerns of the United States over a potential ban on imports of U.S.-grown GMO corn, according to trade offi cials after negotiations in Mexico City on Monday. “We made it clear today that if this issue is not resolved, we will consider all options, including taking formal steps to enforce our rights under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.” The ban would take effect in January 2024.

Chamber honors citizens, business

The Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet to celebrate deserving teachers, citizens and businesses. The event was held at Dimmitt Cafetorium with catered meal and entertainment, with sponsors and community members kicking in to decorate tables and make donations for the silent and live auctions.

Property tax relief on proposed budget

In their inaugural speeches last week, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and Governor Greg Abbott said that governor, the speaker and members were going to find a way for long term property tax relief with the billions of dollars from the surplus. Both laid out property tax cuts as their top priority.

TFB challenges new WOTUS rule

Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) has filed a legal challenge to the new Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule recently announced by the Biden administration. TFB joined Matagorda County Farm Bureau, American Farm Bureau Federation and 15 other organizations representing agriculture, infrastructure and housing in filing the lawsuit against the rule issued by the U.S.

WTAMU judging team #4 at National Western

The WTAMU Meat Judging Team went fourth overall at the National Western Meat Judging Competition, earning a first in reasons by five points, first in pork by 26 points, and second in specs. Nazareth Ryan Heitschmidt, a member of the WTAMU team, went fifth in pork judging.
