Kern

Body
Kenneth Daniel Kern came into this world at 3:16 a.m. on Feb. 7, 1969, in Dimmitt, Texas and passed away due to cancer on April 19, 2022, in McKinney, Texas. He was the seventh son and 10th child of Walter "Bud" Kern and Rita Wethington Kern. His arrival brought joy to the Kern family after they suffered the loss of his older infant sibling Diana Rose Kern only seven months before. Kenny was the first baby to be baptized by the new priest, Fr. Stanley Crocchiola at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth, Texas.

Shirley Tucker Reese, 86 of Plainview, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 25 at College Heights Baptist Church with Mr. Jeff McLain officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Berty Fay Goodwin Varner Fortenberry, 92 of Hereford, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022, in Amarillo, Texas. Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at Westway Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Varner officiating. Burial to follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt, Texas. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas. Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday, March 11.

Cathy Nelson, 77 of Hart, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 in Hart. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Hart with Dr. Gene Meacham officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Viewing will be on Tuesday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tidwell

Our precious mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maxine (Winters) Tidwell, of Frisco, Texas, went home to our Lord on March 11, 2022. She was 93 years young, born on May 1, 1928, in Littlefield, Texas, to Grace (Green) and Pirron Winters. She attended school in Littlefield and graduated in 1945, excelling in math and history. She met the love of her life, Buster Tidwell, at a dance in Pep, Texas. Buster was serving in the Army Air Force at the time and they married in Littlefield on Oct. 5, 1946. They were married for 56 years. They had one daughter, Ronda.

Jose M. Rueda, 93 of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 8, at 1 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Bhaskar Adusupalli, Deacon John Nino and Deacon Richard Martinez as celebrants. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Vigil Service will be held on Monday, March 7, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy Maye Sheffy, 96 of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, in Dimmitt, surrounded by her family. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 4, at 1 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Jonathan Sullivan officiating. Private burial will be held at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, March 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.at the funeral home.

Miller

Murna Loy Welch Miller, 91 of Austin, Texas, peacefully entered the kingdom of her Heavenly Father on Feb. 8, 2022, surrounded by all her children. Our precious Mom and Nana was born Oct. 5, 1930, on the family farm northeast of Friona, Texas, the seventh and youngest child of Ford and Lucy Welch. Murna’s childhood was secure and happy, spent in the country sharing long hours with her family. She attended school in Friona where she was involved in band, choir and was a class officer. In 1949, she was crowned Miss Friona. After graduation she attended Abilene Christian College where she met the love of her life, Jack Reeves Miller from Dimmitt, Texas, 31 miles from Friona. The next year they both transferred to Texas Technological College and were married on August 28, 1951.

Agnes “Angela” Garcia, 67 of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, in Hereford. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. at Good News Church with Pastor David Alvarado and Pastor Lorenzo Martinez officiating.
